Shaggy Rugs

Shaggy rugs are the ones people fall in love with fastest. That deep, textured pile instantly softens a room and creates a space you actually want to walk on barefoot. Whether you're styling a modern living room, warming up a bedroom or creating a comfortable reading nook, a high pile rug changes how the space feels without needing much else.

What Makes a Shaggy Rug?

The defining feature is pile height. Standard rugs sit around 10 to 15mm, while shaggy rugs typically range from 25mm up to 50mm or more. That extra depth creates the soft, textured look and the sink-in comfort that makes them so popular.

Compared to our fluffy rugs, shaggy rugs have a more relaxed, tousled texture. Fluffy rugs are denser and smoother, while shaggy rugs feel more textured and casual. Both are soft, just in different ways.

When to Choose a Shaggy Rug

High pile rugs are best suited to comfort-focused spaces:

Bedrooms: soft underfoot when you wake up
Living rooms: adds warmth and texture to seating areas
Reading nooks: creates a cosy, inviting space
Low-traffic areas: where comfort matters more than durability

For high-traffic areas like hallways, kitchens or dining rooms, we recommend plain rugs or machine washable rugs instead.

Our Shaggy Rug Ranges

Cloud 500: Classic shaggy texture with long, loose pile. Ideal for modern living rooms and feature spaces.

Heaven 800: A popular high pile option with a 35mm faux fur finish, sitting between shaggy and fluffy styles. Perfect for bedrooms.

Paradise 400: Dense, soft and more structured, offering a premium feel underfoot.

Impulse 600: Adds subtle pattern detail while maintaining the soft shaggy texture.

Choosing the Right Colour

Colour behaves differently in high pile rugs because of how the fibres reflect light. A shaggy rug often looks richer and more dimensional in person than in photos.

Grey & silver: most popular and easiest to style
Cream & ivory: soft and elegant, best for low-traffic areas
Black & charcoal: bold and practical
Pink: ideal for bedrooms and nurseries

If you're unsure what colour works best, read our guide on choosing the right rug colour.

Choosing the Right Size

Getting the size right is key to making the rug look intentional:

160x230cm: small spaces and bedrooms
200x290cm: ideal for most living rooms and under queen beds
240x340cm: best for larger rooms and open layouts

In bedrooms, extend at least 60cm beyond the bed. In living rooms, aim for the front legs of your sofa to sit on the rug.

Care and Maintenance

Shaggy rugs need slightly more care than flat rugs, but it’s simple:

Vacuum regularly without a beater bar
Shake smaller rugs outside occasionally
Blot spills immediately
Expect light shedding in the first few weeks
Use an anti-slip underlay for stability
