The quickest way to narrow the list is by pile type, because that decides how a carpet feels, how it wears and which rooms it suits. Colour comes after.

Cut pile has the yarn tips sheared open for the soft, even surface most people picture when they think of carpet. We carry six cut pile ranges, from 9mm to 17mm:

• Naples, 9mm in ten colours, low enough to keep shading down across a large floor.
• Westminster, 9.5mm in thirteen colours, a plush that still carries a Heavy Duty Commercial rating and a 20 year residential warranty.
• Baltimore, 10mm in eight colours, with a flecked two tone surface that hides lint and traffic lanes.
• Sumptuous, 12mm in eleven colours, spun from a soft nylon made for comfort underfoot. A bedroom carpet first.
• Parkview Gardens, 12.5mm in ten colours, short and dense for hallways and whole house jobs.
• Riverside Reserve, 17mm, the deepest pile we stock, in the same ten colour names as Parkview Gardens.

Loop pile leaves the yarn uncut. It wears harder and hides footmarks better, which makes it the practical pick for family rooms and busy hallways. Alexandria is an 11mm scroll loop and Benghazi a slimmer 9mm version, nine colours each. Both use the same colour names, and the colours behind them differ: Pebble is sage green in Alexandria and a brown taupe in Benghazi. Order from the right range, not the name.

Wool carpet

Auburn Ridge is our wool range: 100% wool loop pile at 11.5mm, made in Australia, rated Extra Heavy Duty Residential and backed by a 15 year residential warranty. Five colours named for the bush, Banksia, Gumnut, Lilly Pilly, Tea Tree and Waratah.

Wool springs back instead of crushing, so furniture dents recover. It resists flame without a chemical treatment and holds warmth on a cold morning. The trade off is care. Wool cannot be cleaned with bleach the way solution dyed nylon can, so spills need blotting straight away and a wool safe cleaner.

Nylon or wool?

Every nylon carpet on this page is solution dyed, meaning pigment goes into the nylon while it is still liquid. The colour runs right through each strand. Red wine and coffee can be cleaned out hard, and it stands up to Sydney sun far better than a carpet dyed on the surface. For a rental, a family with pets or a room with big windows, that usually settles it. Wool wins on feel, warmth and how it ages in a main bedroom or formal lounge.

Supply and install across Sydney

Most of our carpet goes out as a supplied and installed job. We measure the rooms, quote the carpet, underlay and labour, lift the old floor covering and take it away, then our regular installers lay the new carpet. Stairs, landings and uneven slabs are all priced at the measure. If you have your own installer, ask us about supply only.

Carpet questions we get asked

Is wool carpet worth the extra cost?

In a room you sit in rather than walk through, usually yes. Wool resists crushing, holds its colour and ages well. Auburn Ridge carries a 15 year residential warranty. Where spills and sun are the bigger risk, a solution dyed nylon such as Westminster is often the better buy.

What is the difference between cut pile and loop pile?

Cut pile has the loops sheared open for a soft, plush surface. Loop pile leaves them intact, which wears harder and hides marks. Cut pile suits bedrooms. Loop pile suits hallways and family rooms.

Which carpet is best for stairs and hallways?

A short, dense pile. Parkview Gardens at 12.5mm was built for hallways, stairs and whole house jobs, and a loop pile hides footmarks well. Avoid the 17mm Riverside Reserve on stairs, because a pile that deep shows every footprint.

How much does carpet cost per square metre?

It depends on the range, the area, the underlay and whether the old floor has to come up. A free measure gives you an exact figure for your rooms rather than a guess.

Can I buy carpet online and have it delivered?

We sell carpet to Sydney customers only, and most jobs are supplied and installed. Rugs are the part of the range we deliver Australia wide.

Can carpet go over my existing floor?

Sometimes, if the existing floor is level, sound and dry. In most homes the old covering comes up first so the underlay sits properly. We will tell you which applies at the measure.
