Small Rugs 120x170cm
Where it fits: Sized for beside a bed, or a small space such as a study or entry.
Small rugs are one of the most versatile and practical additions you can make to your home. At Adore Rugs, we offer a wide range of small rugs in Australia, with a strong focus on the highly popular 160x230cm size. Whether you're looking to buy a small rug for your bedroom, living area, entryway, or kitchen, this size offers the perfect balance between coverage and flexibility.
Unlike oversized rugs, small rugs are easy to style, move, and maintain. A 160x230cm rug is large enough to define a space, yet compact enough to work in tighter layouts. From modern designs to textured and practical everyday options, our collection is designed to suit real Australian homes.
Why 160x230cm Rugs Are the Perfect Small Rug Size
While smaller rugs do exist, many customers consider 160x230cm rugs to be the ideal “small rug” size. This size works across multiple rooms and provides enough coverage to anchor furniture without overwhelming the space.
- Versatile sizing: Works in bedrooms, living rooms, and smaller open areas
- Easy to style: Large enough to define a space, without dominating it
- Practical: Easier to clean and reposition than oversized rugs
- Balanced look: Helps rooms feel complete without overcrowding
- Popular choice: One of the most commonly purchased rug sizes in Australian homes
For customers wanting more coverage, you can also explore our large rugs collection for bigger living areas and open-plan spaces.
Where Small Rugs Work Best in Your Home
Small rugs, especially in the 160x230cm size, can be used throughout the home to add comfort and structure.
Bedroom: A small bedroom rug placed beside or partially under the bed adds warmth and comfort underfoot. This size is perfect for queen beds or smaller rooms.
Living room: A 160x230cm rug works well in compact living rooms, helping define a seating area without covering the entire floor.
Entryway: A small rug creates a welcoming first impression while helping protect your floors from dirt and wear.
Kitchen: Small rugs are ideal for placement near sinks or preparation areas. For more options, browse our kitchen rugs.
Outdoor spaces: Smaller rugs can also be used outdoors in balconies and compact areas. Explore our outdoor rugs for durable options.
Popular Small Rug Styles
Small rugs are available in a wide variety of styles, allowing you to find the perfect match for your space.
Modern rugs: Clean, minimal designs that suit contemporary interiors.
Neutral rugs: Beige, cream, and grey tones that blend effortlessly into any room.
Round rugs: Ideal for softening corners, entryways, and smaller spaces.
Patterned rugs: Add character while helping hide everyday wear.
Washable rugs: Practical for busy homes and high-traffic areas.
Choosing the Right Small Rug Size
When selecting a small rug, it's important to choose a size that works with your layout rather than against it.
- 160x230cm: The most popular rug size in Australia, a step up for bedrooms, small living rooms, and under coffee tables
- 120x170cm: A more compact option for tight spaces or beside beds
- Round rugs: Great for creating softer layouts in smaller rooms
A 160x230cm rug is particularly effective because it provides enough presence to define a space while still being flexible. It can also be layered over a larger base rug to create a more styled and textured look.
How to Style Small Rugs
Small rugs are one of the easiest ways to update a space without committing to a full redesign.
In living rooms, place the rug under a coffee table or small seating area. In bedrooms, position it beside or partially under the bed. In entryways, use it to create a welcoming and practical space.
Layering is another popular styling technique. Placing a small rug over a larger neutral rug adds depth and creates a more designer-inspired look.
