The lime in Limed Piccolo Oak lands on an olive base rather than a white one. Looking at the swatch, the board is a muted khaki-gold — a soft greenish mid-beige with white lime sitting visibly in the open grain pores and lifting the texture. It is not the pale, chalky white-limed oak the name tends to suggest, and anyone expecting a Scandinavian bleached board should look at Paris Modern Oak or Paris Luteous Oak instead. Its closest relative here is Espresso Piccolo Oak, which shares the same board but goes dramatically darker.
The olive cast is genuinely useful in the right scheme. It bridges warm and cool in a way that pure greys and pure golds cannot, so it works under sage and eucalypt greens, natural linen, rattan, terracotta and unpainted timber, and it suits homes leaning toward a relaxed coastal or organic palette rather than a hard contemporary one. The limed grain adds tactile interest at close range, which keeps a 190mm board from looking flat, and the mid tone is forgiving about dust and traffic through hallways and living areas.
Be clear about what the 2mm wear layer means, because it is the defining trait of this range. Two millimetres is the thinnest oak veneer of the Swish engineered oak ranges — Natura and Natura Herringbone both carry 3mm. That makes Contemporary the entry point into a genuine oak floor rather than a printed lookalike: the surface you walk on is real European oak, with real grain and real depth, on a board wide enough to show it off. What it will not do is take as many full sandbacks over its life as a thicker veneer would. We are not going to put a number on how many times it can be refinished, because that depends entirely on the installer, the machine and how much material comes off each pass. If repeated future resanding is central to your plan, look at a 3mm range; if you want real oak underfoot at a sensible cost and normal care, this does the job properly.
Swish Oak Contemporary is a 14mm engineered board with a 2mm European oak wear layer, finished in a matt UV lacquer and cut to a generous 190 x 1900mm plank with a micro-bevelled edge and a tongue and groove profile. Each pack covers 2.90 m² over eight boards at roughly 22kg, and the range is rated E1 at less than 5ppm for formaldehyde. It can be floated over acoustic underlay or direct glued to the subfloor, which makes it workable over both timber and concrete — and in a strata apartment the floating option usually makes acoustic compliance easier to achieve. Whichever method you choose, the boards must be delivered and acclimatised in the room before installation begins; engineered timber is far more stable than solid, but it is still timber and it still needs to settle.
Eco Flooring Systems source oak from responsibly managed forests, and engineering the board means the slow-growing oak is concentrated where it is actually used — on the surface — rather than through the full thickness. Bear in mind that real timber varies from board to board and keeps moving in tone as it ages under light, particularly through the first year; that is a feature of a natural floor, not a defect, but it does mean a physical sample in your own room will tell you far more than any photograph on a screen.
