Swish Oak Natura - French Ghost - 14/3mm Engineered Oak Flooring

French Ghost is not the pale, almost-white floor the name suggests. The swatch is a mid greyed mushroom-taupe with a definite brown undertone, several shades deeper than any of the light decors in this range and closer to a warm mid grey than to a ghost. Canyon Oak is its nearest neighbour and runs a touch more mauve, while Oyster Grey is deeper and more clearly grey. If you want something genuinely pale, Nordic Spring or Danish White are the decors to look at instead. Choose French Ghost if you want a mid-tone neutral that neither commits to warm nor to cool and lets furniture and rugs lead the room.

This is one of the most practical tones in the collection. Mid-toned neutrals hide the widest range of everyday mess, because they are dark enough to disguise dust and pale enough to disguise grit and hair, and the visible grain gives fine scratches somewhere to disappear. It is a sensible specification for a rental, a family home or a high-traffic hallway. The taupe body keeps company easily with both warm timber furniture and cool grey joinery, which makes it a low-risk choice when the rest of the interior is not yet decided.

Swish Oak Natura pairs a 3mm sawn oak veneer with a dimensionally stable engineered core to make a 14mm board in a well-proportioned 190 x 1900mm size, with micro-bevelled edges on all four sides. The Tongue and Groove profile gives you a genuine choice of installation method: glue down for a solid, quiet floor bonded to the substrate, or float over underlay for a faster and more easily lifted result. Because the wear layer is true oak rather than a printed decor, the surface can be sanded and refinished over the years rather than only replaced. A 3mm veneer supports fewer of those cycles than a 4mm one, which is the trade-off against the Wideboard range. Like all engineered timber, it needs acclimatising on site first.

This range meets E1 low-emission requirements with VOC levels measured below 5ppm, so it is a sound choice where indoor air quality is a consideration. As with all real timber floors, individual boards differ in colour and grain, and the floor will change subtly with light exposure over the years, which is worth anticipating around rugs and furniture that shade parts of the surface. None of that is a defect. It is simply what natural oak does, and it is why a physical sample beats any photograph. Supply and install available across Sydney.
