Olympus Stone Vinyl Tile Flooring
Olympus Stone is Godfrey Hirst's direct stick vinyl tile in 457mm squares at 2.5mm, seven stone looks from pale terrazzo through to a near-black charcoal. Boxes hold 16 tiles covering 3.34m2.
The case for it over genuine stone is practical rather than aesthetic. There is no bedding, no build-up and no demolition, and at 2.5mm glued down it adds almost nothing to the floor height, so doors, kickboards and the transitions to carpet or timber generally stay as they are. It is also warmer and far quieter underfoot than stone, with no grout to discolour.
The matte embossed surface keeps reflections down, which matters more on the dark tiles than any other. Slip resistance is P3 under AS 4586, which makes it suitable for kitchens, bathrooms and laundries. Abrasion is Group T under EN 660-2, the top class for vinyl. The wear layer is 0.55mm under a scratch and slip resistant coating. Fire testing returns a CRF of 10.7kW/m2 with smoke at 53% to EN ISO 9239.
Direct stick needs a flat, dry, properly prepared substrate. There is no underlay to hide a dip, so the preparation is part of the job rather than an optional extra.
