Settlers Peak Wool Carpet
Settlers Peak is a 100% wool level loop pile, manufactured in Australia from multi-ply twisted, stock-dyed yarn. Five colours at 11.5mm total thickness over an 8.5mm pile height.
Two ratings make this range unusually versatile. It is rated suitable for stairs, which many carpets are not, and it is suitable over underfloor heating. If you are carpeting a staircase or working over hydronic or electric heating, that narrows the field quickly.
The construction is old-fashioned in the good sense. Primary backing is woven polypropylene, secondary backing is woven jute, and the yarn runs 1084g per square metre for a total weight of 2756g. It is protected against moth attack to WNZ TM25 and is antistatic, with low VOC emissions.
Stock dyeing means the wool is dyed before it is spun, which is what gives the flecked colours their depth. Several of the colours carry a second tone through the loop, and that variation hides everyday marks far better than a flat colour would.
One measuring point: the roll is 3.66m wide against the 4.0m of the nylon ranges, with a standard roll length of 35m, so wider rooms will carry a seam.
