Tawny Oak - 8mm Oakleaf Laminate Flooring

Tawny Oak is not tawny. The name suggests a warm orange-brown, but this is the darkest board in the Preference Floors Oakleaf range and it is a smoky grey-brown: cool rather than warm, with strong dark striation running the length of the plank. Worth knowing before you order, because the two tones behave very differently in a room: this one sits with charcoal joinery, concrete and black tapware, where a genuinely warm brown would not. If warmth at depth is what you are after, Spotted Gum is the one to compare it against.

Taken on its own terms it is the most dramatic floor here, and the heavy striation is forgiving of traffic in a way flat dark boards never are, though like any dark floor it will show dust and footprints more readily than a mid tone.

Oakleaf's substance is in the board. The core is FSC certified HDF, so the fibre is traceable to responsibly managed forests, and it comes with a lifetime structural warranty on the board for as long as you own the floor. The click system is licensed from Flooring Industries and installs floating with no adhesive; the range is fire and slip test certified to Australian requirements.

This is the 8mm AC3 board at 1215mm x 195mm, 1.895m² per pack: AC3 being the standard residential wear rating. For a busy hallway or a rental, the 12mm AC4 board at 2200mm long is the step up. Either way, suitable over in-slab hydronic heating only, not electric underfloor heating mats. Supply and install available across Sydney.
