XXL 8.0 - Pearl Grey - 8mm Hybrid Flooring

Set your expectations from the board rather than the name: Pearl Grey is not a pale pearl but a mid grey with a clear green-olive undertone and strong plank-to-plank variation, some boards distinctly darker than others. It is considerably deeper than Oak Sofia and reads warmer and more organic than Royal Oak, which is a cleaner, cooler grey. It works well in rooms with plenty of light and natural materials: stone, linen, greenery, where the olive cast comes across as earthy. It is not the board for anyone picturing a soft, light silver-grey floor.

The depth and the variation together make this one of the more forgiving boards in XXL 8.0. Mid-tone floors sit in the band where neither pale dust nor dark grit is thrown into contrast, and the plank-to-plank movement gives scuffs and scratches somewhere to disappear. That suits hallways, family rooms and open-plan kitchens. The green undertone is the thing to check on site, as it shifts noticeably between daylight and warm artificial light, and it can clash with strongly pink or red-toned brick and stone.

Structurally, XXL 8.0 is a floating hybrid at 8mm, of which 1.5mm is IXPE acoustic underlay bonded to the board at the factory. The plank is the headline: 1511 x 229mm, with micro-bevelled edges and a Välinge 5G locking profile that pulls the joins tight and holds them. The wearing surface is a 0.55mm layer under an anti-bacterial UV coating. The rigid core is waterproof, but a click-together floor is not a waterproof assembly and is no substitute for a waterproofing membrane. Talk to us before putting it into a wet area.
