XXL 8.0 - Spotted Gum - 8mm Hybrid Flooring

Of everything in XXL 8.0, Spotted Gum is the board that most clearly reads as Australian hardwood — a warm mid-brown running from golden caramel through to a deeper olive-brown, with genuine banding from one plank to the next. It is warmer and much more varied than Walnut Brown and considerably deeper than Oak Saffron. It is the natural pick for a renovation joining onto existing spotted gum, and for anyone who wants the floor to carry some of the character of the house. In a small apartment with limited light it will feel heavier than the swatch suggests.

Few floors work harder. The banded mid-brown tones hide scratches, scuffs, sand and dried footprints about as well as any surface can, and future repairs or extensions blend in rather than standing out, because the floor already contains that much variation. That makes it a strong specification for entries, hallways, open-plan kitchens and houses with pets. It also keeps its warmth under lamplight, where greys and pales tend to go flat once the sun is down. Give it enough floor area to let the variation settle into a rhythm.

Structurally, XXL 8.0 is a floating hybrid at 8mm, of which 1.5mm is IXPE acoustic underlay bonded to the board at the factory. The plank is the headline: 1511 x 229mm, with micro-bevelled edges and a Välinge 5G locking profile that pulls the joins tight and holds them. The wearing surface is a 0.55mm layer under an anti-bacterial UV coating. The rigid core is waterproof, but a click-together floor is not a waterproof assembly and is no substitute for a waterproofing membrane — talk to us before putting it into a wet area.
