Westminster - Soma - 9.5mm Cut Pile Carpet

Soma is the middle grey of the Westminster range — a clean mid neutral carrying just enough warmth to stop the floor reading cold. That small amount of warmth is the whole point of it. Set it beside Deft, which is a light-mid grey with a definite blue cast, and Soma looks softer under warm light; set it beside Bionic, which is a full step darker and dead neutral, and Soma is the lighter and gentler of the two. In a range that also carries a true olive, a rust and a navy, this is the colour for the house that wants everything Westminster does underfoot and none of its colour. It suits whole-house installations, bedrooms, hallways and open living areas, and it sits against white, timber, black and brushed metal without argument. The honest caveat is the one every mid grey carries: it is a quiet floor and it will not contribute much to a room's character. If you want the carpet itself to add something, Synth warms it further and Empath or Perma take it somewhere else entirely.

Mid tones are also the practical band for traffic. Soma is dark enough to forgive daily use and pale enough to keep a room feeling open — the compromise a pale such as Gesture cannot make and a near-black such as Sensor or Tact does not need to. Westminster is built as a tufted cut pile in 100% Premium Solution Dyed Nylon, 9.5mm total thickness, on a FusionBac backing and supplied 4.0m wide. The Premium SDN construction locks pigment into the fibre while it is still liquid, which is why the carpet is stain proof and fade proof in normal service and why it can be cleaned hard without going patchy. The fibre is anti-allergenic.

What separates Westminster from an ordinary commercial-grade carpet is that it is a genuine luxury plush at 9.5mm — soft and deep underfoot, with the superior sound absorption Belgotex cite for the range — while still carrying an Extra Heavy Duty Residential and Heavy Duty Commercial rating and an AS ISO 9239-1 fire rating. Getting that softness and that durability classification in the same product is unusual. The range also offers low VOC emissions, a solution dying process that uses no water, ISO 14001 certification and Science Based Targets initiative targets set.
