XXL 8.0 - Cotton Oak - 8mm Hybrid Flooring

Cotton Oak is the palest, coolest board in XXL 8.0: an almost flat light grey with a faint whitewashed grain and very little tonal movement from one plank to the next. Seashell White is its closest relative and carries noticeably more plank variation and warmth; Oak Sofia is a clear step darker and greyer. This is a board for deliberately minimal interiors: white walls, concrete, matte black, where the floor is supposed to be a plane rather than a texture. It is entirely the wrong choice for a busy family entry.

Very pale, very flat floors are the least forgiving surface in any range, and it is fairer to say so up front. With almost no grain pattern to break up the eye, dark grit, hair and shoe marks are all clearly visible, and the cool tone gives no warmth back on an overcast day. What you get in exchange is the maximum brightening effect available here, which in a small south-facing apartment can genuinely change how the space feels. Best in bedrooms, studies and quiet living rooms; least suited to kitchens and hallways.

The appeal of XXL 8.0 is length. At 1511 x 229mm the plank is longer than most hybrids on the market, which means fewer end joins, a cleaner sightline down a hallway and a calmer floor in a large room. Total thickness is 8mm, including 1.5mm of pre-attached IXPE acoustic underlay that quietens footfall and removes a step from the installation. The surface carries a 0.55mm wear layer and an anti-bacterial UV coating, the edges are micro-bevelled, and the Välinge 5G locking profile gives a tight, durable joint in a floating install. The rigid core is waterproof, though a click-together floor is not a waterproof assembly and does not replace a waterproofing membrane. Check with us before using it in a wet area.

Warranty runs to 25 years residential and 5 years commercial. The board carries an A+ VOC rating, is phthalate free and is fully recyclable at end of life, which makes it a straightforward specification for projects with indoor air quality or sustainability requirements.
