Shell is a mid warm taupe-brown: the point in the Benghazi range where brown clearly takes over from grey. It is warmer and softer than Dune, with a settled, faintly earthy quality that tends to look better in the room than it does on a screen. Next to Shore it is noticeably lighter; next to Pebble it is warmer and less shadowed. Shell is a natural match for homes with timber floors running through the living areas, tan or caramel leather, cane and rattan, and walls in warm white or mushroom. It is forgiving enough for a main living space and a staircase without going as dark as Flow. If your furnishings run cool, charcoal, black, cool grey, Shell will fight them, and Wave or Breeze will be the easier pairing.

Belgotex builds Benghazi as a scroll loop pile: loops of varied size laid over a linear construction so the surface holds a gentle scrolling texture at close range and reads as a calm, even floor from across the room. The yarn is 100% solution dyed nylon, spun with a matte finish that removes the sheen synthetic carpets are usually given away by.

The specification that matters most day to day is the 9.0mm total thickness. That is a low, tightly packed profile rather than a deep plush, and low loop pile is exactly what you want on stairs, through hallways and across family rooms. It does not crush and flatten along the traffic line, it wraps a stair nosing cleanly, and it pushes furniture legs back out rather than swallowing them. The trade-off is worth stating honestly: this is a hard-wearing floor first and a soft one second, so if you want something to sink into beside the bed, a deeper plush suits that room better. Solution dyed nylon carries its colour right through the fibre, so Shell will not fade in sun and will survive aggressive spot cleaning.
