Guardian Blackbutt is a soft warm golden-tan with a smooth face and very little contrast from plank to plank. Australian blackbutt in solid timber lays paler than this, with more olive in it and more gum vein showing, so expect the board to read warmer and more even than the species does in a sawn floor. That evenness is the reason most people pick it. A low-contrast golden floor hides dust between cleans and does not compete with a kitchen full of timber joinery.
It works with white and off-white walls, brass or black tapware, and benchtops anywhere in the white-to-grey family. Put it against a very cool grey wall and it will read yellow, so look at a board in the actual room before you commit.
Planks are 1500mm long and 228mm wide, six to a 2.052m2 pack. The board is a 5mm rigid SPC core with 1.5mm of IXPE acoustic underlay already bonded to the back, which is where the 6.5mm total comes from. There is no separate underlay to buy or roll out, and the floor was tested at AAAC 5 Star for impact noise, the level most strata schemes ask for.
Guardian carries a 25 year limited structural warranty for residential use. It lays floating over a substrate flat to within 3mm over any 3m, and it is rated for in-slab hydronic heating but not for electric underfloor mats.
