Guardian Fertile Oak is the warmest of the three golden boards, a mid caramel-tan that sits a step deeper and slightly redder than Blackbutt. The grain is fine and the surface is smooth, so the warmth comes from the colour rather than from heavy texture.
Warm floors do a specific job in Australian houses. A south-facing living room that never gets direct sun will feel noticeably less cold underfoot with this than with any of the greys in the range. The trade-off is western light, which pushes an already warm board further towards orange through the afternoon. If your main living space faces west, Chester Oak or Cottage Brown will hold their colour better.
It pairs cleanly with cream, stone and putty walls, and with timber or rattan furniture. Against cool grey cabinetry it will look out of step.
The plank is 1500 x 228mm with a matt finish and a micro bevel on all four sides. Underneath the decor sits a 5mm rigid SPC core, and 1.5mm of IXPE acoustic underlay comes already attached, so the floor tested at AAAC 5 Star for impact noise and comfortably beat the BCA 2016 minimum. It is fully waterproof and can go into a laundry or bathroom. Installation is floating only, over a substrate flat to 3mm in 3m, with a maximum raft of 15m by 15m before a break is needed.
