Hickory is the straightforward warm mid-tone in the Preference Floors Oakleaf HD Plus range: a brown-tan with genuine warmth and an even, unfussy grain that does not compete with anything else in the room. It is the colour people land on when the pale boards feel too stark and the dark ones too heavy, and it is the most forgiving tone in the range for everyday marks: dark enough to hide dust, light enough to hide scratches. A safe choice in the best sense.
What lifts it above ordinary laminate is the print. It is a high definition digital print with 30 pattern repeats, where most laminates cycle every six to ten boards, and on an even, mid-tone grain like this one, repetition is exactly what the eye picks up first across a long room. The planks are 2200mm long and 196mm wide, so there are far fewer end joins than a standard 1200mm board would give you.
AC4 rated for everyday residential wear, with a 48 hour water-resistant core and a moisture-protection treated V4 micro bevel, so a spill has time to be wiped before it reaches the joint. Super matte coating, Välinge click floating installation, P3 slip under AS 4586, and GOLD Greenguard Certified for low chemical emissions, worth knowing if the floor is going into a bedroom or a nursery. Preference back it with a 25 year limited structural warranty and 20 years on the finish.
One limitation: suitable over in-slab hydronic heating only, not electric underfloor heating mats. Supply and install available across Sydney.
