Adore Rugs & Flooring supplies and installs flooring across Sydney. Every job starts the same way: we come out, measure the space, look at what is under the existing floor, and quote on what the job actually needs rather than a rate per square metre with the hard parts left off. Who lays the floor
The same installers do our work week in and week out. They are not a rotating pool of whoever is available. Our lead flooring installer has laid every product we stock, including the ones most crews would rather not quote on: herringbone, glue-down engineered timber, and stairs. Carpet has its own dedicated installer, because carpet is a different trade with different tools and a different unit of measurement.
That matters more than it sounds. Most flooring complaints are not about the boards. They are about a subfloor nobody checked, a stair nosing that does not sit flat, or a transition into a tiled hallway that ends up a centimetre proud.
What actually happens on an install
1. Measure and subfloor assessment
We measure the rooms and check the substrate. On a concrete slab that means checking for moisture and for level. On timber or particleboard it means checking for movement and for squeaks that will still be there afterwards. A floor laid over a bad substrate will fail no matter what you paid for the boards.
2. Preparation
This is where the variation in a quote comes from. Old carpet and underlay have to come up. Tack strips have to come out. Where underlay has perished and bonded itself to the slab it has to be scraped off, which is slow, unglamorous work that many quotes quietly omit. Where the slab is out of level we self-level it. Where a new floor has to finish flush with existing tiles, we build the substrate up to meet them.
3. Laying
Floating floors go down over acoustic underlay with expansion gaps at every wall and fixed object. Glue-down engineered goes down in adhesive with a trowel notch matched to the board. Herringbone is set out from a centre line so the pattern lands square to the room rather than square to a wall that is not straight.
4. Trims and finishing
Scotia or new skirting to cover the expansion gap, door bars at transitions, stair nosings where the floor runs up a staircase. Old floor coverings and offcuts go with us.
A recent Sydney job
A customer wanted carpet replaced with hybrid plank through the downstairs of their home. Two of the downstairs rooms sat lower than the tiled corridor, so the subfloor in both had to be raised to finish flush rather than leaving a lip at every doorway. The old underlay had melted onto the slab and had to be scraped back before anything could be laid. The staircase was clad in the same plank so the timber runs continuously from the ground floor up. All of it was done around the customer's furniture rather than emptying the house.
Product used was EasiPlank Natural Blackbutt. The customer left us a five star review afterwards, which is the only performance measure that counts on a job like that one.

- Hybrid floating, from 6.5mm up to 10mm, including herringbone
- Laminate floating, 8mm and 12mm, including water-resistant ranges for kitchens and laundries
- Engineered timber, floating or glue-down, including herringbone and chevron
- Vinyl plank and vinyl tile, including looselay and glue-down
- Broadloom carpet, stretched over underlay or direct stick
- Carpet tiles, for offices, gyms and rental properties
We hold ranges from Belgotex, Godfrey Hirst, Preference Floors, HTT Flooring, Terra Mater, Bass Timber, Airlay, Eco Flooring Systems and StoneFloor, so a quote is rarely limited to one brand's answer to your problem.
Where we work
The showroom is at 111 Station Road, Auburn. That is a short run to Sydney Olympic Park and a straight line down Parramatta Road into the city.
We install right through the inner west and across the harbour: Concord, Five Dock, Abbotsford, Drummoyne, Haberfield, Strathfield, Burwood, Balmain, Rozelle, Leichhardt, Hunters Hill, Gladesville, Lane Cove, Mosman and Neutral Bay. Rhodes, Wentworth Point, Newington and Sydney Olympic Park are ten minutes from the showroom door. East of the city we work through Paddington, Surry Hills, Randwick and Kensington.
Our own end of town is covered as well: Auburn, Lidcombe, Granville, Parramatta, Merrylands, Bankstown and Fairfield.
We travel further for larger jobs and for builders we work with regularly. If you are outside that spread, call and ask.
Questions we get asked
How long does an install take?
A single room is usually a day. A standard three bedroom house in hybrid or laminate is two to three days. Add time for subfloor preparation, stairs, or herringbone, all of which are slower than a straight lay.
Do I have to move my furniture?
Not necessarily. We work around furniture regularly, moving it room by room. It adds time, so tell us at the measure and it goes in the quote rather than becoming a surprise on the day.
Do you remove the old floor?
Yes. Carpet uplift, underlay removal and disposal are all things we do and all things we quote for separately, because the effort varies enormously between a carpet that lifts cleanly and one that has bonded to the slab.
My floor is uneven. Is that a problem?
It is a problem if it is ignored. Floating floors need a substrate within tolerance or the boards will flex, the joints will open and the floor will click underfoot. We self-level where it is needed and price that into the quote.
Can you match a new floor to existing tiles?
Yes, by building the substrate up so the finished heights meet. It is the most common request we get in homes where only part of the ground floor is being redone.
