Swish Oak Wideboard - Paris Natural Oak - 14/4mm Engineered Oak Flooring

Paris Natural Oak is the classic golden oak of the range and the most evenly coloured board in it. The tone is a saturated warm amber-honey with a light orange undertone, the grain smooth and clearly drawn rather than heavily brushed, and the variation between boards is modest compared with the rest of the Wideboard decors. It is close in spirit to French Natural in the Natura range, though this one is warmer and wider, and it is far more consistent than Country Caramel Oak, which shares some of the same golden notes but throws in grey boards alongside them. Choose it if you want traditional, warm, unmistakably timber-looking oak; skip it if your interior is cool-toned or minimal.

Warm mid-tone golden floors are among the most forgiving surfaces you can specify. The colour is dark enough to hide dust and light enough to hide grit, and the grain pattern breaks up scratches and pet marks well, which makes this a sound choice for hallways, open-plan living and homes with dogs. In a room with plenty of northern light the gold intensifies and can push quite orange, so if your walls are already warm consider a cooler option. Against white or soft grey walls it does the opposite and looks balanced and classic.

Swish Oak Wideboard is a genuine engineered oak floor: a 4mm sawn oak wear layer bonded over a dimensionally stable multi-ply core to a finished 14mm, in a generous 220 x 2200mm plank with a micro-bevelled edge that gives each board its own shadow line. Boards join with a Välinge 5G locking profile and are laid floating over underlay with no adhesive, which keeps the installation clean and makes individual boards easier to lift later if a service needs to run underneath. The 4mm veneer is the part worth paying attention to. It is real oak, thick enough that the floor can be sanded back and refinished several times across its life rather than once or twice, so a scratched or tired surface can be taken back to fresh timber instead of replaced. Being real timber, engineered oak must be acclimatised on site before it is laid, so allow for that in your schedule.

Swish engineered oak is manufactured to E1 low-emission standards with VOC levels below 5ppm, so the floor contributes very little to the indoor air of the home it is laid in. Bear in mind that real timber veneer varies in colour and grain from board to board and will continue to shift gently under light over the years, deepening or mellowing depending on exposure. That is characteristic of natural oak rather than a fault, and it is the reason you should always look at a physical sample in your own room instead of judging tone from a screen.
