Swish Oak Wideboard - Paris Summer Oak - 14/4mm Engineered Oak Flooring

Paris Summer Oak is not the warm, sunlit floor the name implies. It is a cool weathered greige: a heavily wire-brushed board where white limed grain sits over a grey-brown body, with darker streaks and the occasional near-driftwood plank. The texture is the most pronounced in the Wideboard range and you can feel it underfoot. Against Elegant Sandy Oak it is browner, busier and much more textured, and against Urban Limewash Oak it is markedly cooler where Urban Limewash stays honey. It suits a coastal, Hamptons or relaxed rustic interior that wants pale but not sterile; it is the wrong choice if you want a smooth, uniform, low-texture floor.

The deep brushing and strong limed grain make this exceptionally good at hiding everyday marks. Dust settles into the texture rather than sitting on top of it, scratches disappear into the existing grain lines, and the mix of light and dark boards means a single damaged plank never stands out. That makes it one of the better options in the range for a busy family home, a holiday house or a rental. The pronounced texture does hold a little more grit in the grain, so a vacuum with a hard-floor head works better here than a dry mop alone.

Every board in the Swish Oak Wideboard range is built the same way: a 4mm layer of true sawn oak laid over a cross-bonded ply core, finished at 14mm overall, and pressed into a wide 220 x 2200mm format with micro-bevelled edges that define each plank without collecting grit. The Välinge 5G locking profile clicks together and floats over underlay, so there is no adhesive cost and no wet trades on site. That 4mm veneer is the real differentiator against thinner engineered boards. Because the oak surface is substantial rather than a token skin, the floor can be sanded and recoated a number of times over its working life, which is what separates a floor you maintain from a floor you eventually rip up. Engineered timber is a natural material and needs to acclimatise in the room before installation begins.

Every board is produced to the E1 emission standard with VOC content under 5ppm, which keeps the floor a low contributor to indoor air quality once it is down. Because the surface is genuine oak, expect visible variation in colour, figure and grain between boards, and expect the floor to age and change tone with sunlight over time. That is the nature of real timber and part of why it looks the way it does, but it does mean a screen image can only ever be indicative.
