Auburn Ridge - Gumnut - 11.5mm Wool Loop Pile Carpet

Gumnut is the palest colour in the Auburn Ridge range: a warm oatmeal-cream with a soft pink-beige cast that stops it ever feeling stark. In a bright room it lifts everything around it, and because the yarn is multi-toned rather than a single flat colour, the braid pattern stays legible even at this light a value. It suits main bedrooms, formal sitting rooms and light-filled upper levels, and it is a natural partner for white linen, pale oak and unpolished brass. Its nearest neighbour is Tea Tree, which is a half-step deeper and turns slightly mauve; if you want the same softness with a little more grounding, go there. Gumnut is not the colour for a high-traffic entry or a house with muddy paws. Lilly Pilly or Waratah will serve that job far better.

Auburn Ridge is Belgotex's wool loop pile, tufted in a braid-like plaid texture and accentuated with multi-toned yarn so the pattern reads as depth rather than as a printed design. It is a real visual feature: the braid gives the floor a woven, handcrafted character that a plain loop simply does not have, and it is one of the few textures that looks as good in a small bedroom as it does running through a whole level. The fibre is 100% wool, and that changes what the carpet does. Wool has natural crimp, so it springs back rather than crushing flat, and it holds its pile through years of traffic. It is naturally flame resistant without chemical treatment, it buffers humidity by absorbing and releasing moisture with the room, and it feels warmer and softer underfoot than any synthetic. The honest trade-off is cleaning: unlike a solution dyed nylon, wool cannot be cleaned with bleach, and spills want blotting and attention promptly rather than at your leisure.

One practical note before you measure up. Auburn Ridge is woven 3.66m wide, narrower than the 4.0m nylon ranges, so rooms wider than 3.66m will need a seam. On a textured carpet like this the seam disappears well, but it is worth planning where it falls, ideally out of the main sightline from the door.
