Auburn Ridge - Tea Tree - 11.5mm Wool Loop Pile Carpet

Tea Tree is a light warm greige-taupe with a faint mauve lean: an unusual and rather sophisticated colour that sits a half-step deeper than Gumnut, the palest in the Auburn Ridge range. The mauve is subtle, but it is what gives the carpet its character: against a warm white wall it reads as a soft, dusty taupe rather than a plain beige, and it pairs particularly well with smoky timber, aged brass and the muted greens and blush tones common in Australian interiors. Choose Gumnut instead if you want something purely creamy with no colour lean at all; step up to Banksia if you want a cooler, greyer mid tone. Tea Tree is best in bedrooms, studies and living rooms rather than hard-working entries.

Auburn Ridge is a wool loop pile from Belgotex, tufted in a braid-like plaid that runs across the surface as a genuine texture. Multi-toned yarn is used deliberately throughout the range, and on a colour this nuanced it is doing real work. The mix of tones is what produces the mauve-greige cast in the first place, and it keeps the floor from reading flat across a large area. The whole range is manufactured in Australia from yarn proven in local conditions.

The fibre is 100% wool. Wool's natural resilience means the pile recovers from compression rather than staying crushed under furniture legs, and it holds its texture over a long life. It is naturally flame resistant, it regulates humidity by taking up and releasing moisture as the room changes, and it is noticeably warmer to walk on than any nylon in winter. It also asks more of you than a synthetic does: wool is not bleach-cleanable, and spills should be blotted and treated promptly rather than left to dry.

Worth noting at quoting stage: the roll is 3.66m wide rather than the 4.0m of the nylon ranges, so a room wider than 3.66m will carry a seam. The braided texture conceals seams unusually well, but the placement is still worth deciding on site.
