Auburn Ridge - Lilly Pilly - 11.5mm Wool Loop Pile Carpet

Lilly Pilly is a mid-dark warm grey-brown: a true mushroom, and the most forgiving colour in the Auburn Ridge range short of Waratah. It has enough brown in it to feel warm and enough grey to stay neutral, which is why it works in houses that cannot decide between the two. Laid across a whole floor it reads as a quiet, earthy mid tone; against white skirting it looks considerably richer than the sample chip suggests. It is deeper and warmer than Banksia, which stays firmly grey, and several steps darker than Tea Tree. This is the colour for family living rooms, hallways and stairs: anywhere the floor needs to absorb daily life. If you want the same warmth much lighter, Gumnut is the pale end of this palette.

Auburn Ridge is Belgotex's wool loop pile, tufted with a braid-like plaid texture and accentuated by multi-toned yarn. That braid is the range's signature and its practical strength: a surface broken into small woven-looking sections does not show tracking, crumbs or scuffs the way a flat, single-tone carpet does. The range is manufactured in Australia from yarn proven in local conditions, which matters for a fibre that has to cope with Sydney's humidity swings.

Being 100% wool gives this carpet a different character to the nylon ranges. Wool's natural crimp means the pile has real spring. It recovers from furniture and foot traffic rather than staying flattened, and at 11.5mm total thickness there is substance underfoot. It is naturally flame resistant without chemical treatment, and it buffers a room's humidity by absorbing and releasing moisture. What you give up against a solution dyed nylon is cleaning latitude: wool is not bleach-cleanable, and spills want blotting straight away with a wool-safe product rather than being left.

Before you order, note the roll width. Auburn Ridge is 3.66m wide, narrower than the 4.0m nylon ranges, so a room over 3.66m in its narrow dimension will need a seam. The textured braid conceals joins well, but the position should be set deliberately rather than left to chance.
