Alexandria - Sandy - 11mm Scroll Loop Pile Carpet

Sandy is a light warm sand-beige, noticeably warmer and pinker than Terra, which is the palest colour in the Alexandria range, without stepping up into the depth of Shell. Put the two swatches side by side and Terra looks like cream while Sandy looks like sunlight on sand. That warm cast makes it an easy partner for honey-toned oak, rattan, brass tapware and the softer white paints, and it keeps bedrooms feeling calm rather than clinical. Where it will not work is in a deliberately cool scheme: if your walls, stone and joinery lean grey, Sandy will read faintly yellow against them and you are better off with Dune, which holds the same lightness on a cooler base.

The Alexandria construction is a scroll loop pile from Belgotex, built from matte yarn tufted at varying loop heights. Rather than a uniform surface, you get a subtle linear movement running through the carpet, close to the look of a natural fibre floor covering, but without the fragility. The texture earns its keep every day: mixed loop heights break up reflected light, so the vacuum tracks and footprint shading that show instantly on a plain cut pile are far less visible here.

Fibre is 100% solution dyed nylon. The colour is introduced into the fibre as it is formed, so it is part of the strand rather than a coating on it. Two things follow from that. Spills can be attacked hard, including with diluted household bleach, without leaving a pale patch behind. And strong sun through a window will not fade the floor over a few summers, important in a colour this light, where fading tends to show first. The 4.0m width gives generous seam-free coverage in most rooms, and Alexandria is rated Extra Heavy Duty Residential and Heavy Duty Commercial, so it is comfortably specified for stairs, hallways and offices as well as bedrooms.
