Alexandria - Wave - 11mm Scroll Loop Pile Carpet

Wave is the darkest colour in the Alexandria range: a mid-dark cool charcoal-grey with no warmth in it at all. It is a decisive choice rather than a safe one. In a media room or a home theatre it is exactly right, absorbing light instead of bouncing it around, and in a commercial fit-out or an office it gives you the grounded, contemporary floor that pairs with white walls and black joinery. Be honest about the trade-off though: a dark cool grey shows pale lint, dust and light-coloured pet hair more readily than a mid tone does, so it wants regular vacuuming. If you have a golden retriever, Flow or Shore will be kinder to you. Against Breeze it is several steps darker and has none of that colour's green undertone.

Alexandria is a scroll loop pile by Belgotex, tufted from matte yarn at varying loop heights so the carpet carries a low linear texture. On a dark colour this is what stops the floor looking like a flat black hole. The varied loops catch light across the surface and give the charcoal some visible structure and movement.

Dark colours are also where solution dyed nylon proves itself hardest. Because pigment is locked into the fibre as it is made rather than applied to a finished strand, a dark tone like Wave will not sun-bleach into a patchy, brownish version of itself along a window line: the failure mode that ruins conventionally dyed dark carpets.
