Alexandria - Shell - 11mm Scroll Loop Pile Carpet

Shell is a warm mid taupe-beige, and it is clearly deeper than Sandy: a full step down in tone rather than a subtle shift. That depth is the reason to choose it. A mid taupe forgives the daily traffic of a family home in a way a pale cream cannot: it does not telegraph every mark from the back door, and it holds its look between cleans. The warmth in it reads as beige rather than brown, which keeps it lighter on the eye than Shore or Flow while still anchoring a room. It suits open-plan living, hallways, stairs and kids' bedrooms, and it sits comfortably with timber floors in adjoining rooms. If your brief is maximum light in a small or south-facing room, Shell will pull it down. Terra or Sandy is the better answer there.

Alexandria is a scroll loop pile by Belgotex, tufted from matte yarn at varying loop heights. The result is a soft linear texture across the floor, not a pattern you notice from the doorway, but enough surface movement to give a large expanse of carpet some life. In a mid tone like Shell that texture does a lot of work, breaking up the flat sameness a solid colour can have over a big open area.

Because the pile is looped, the tuft ends are never cut open, so there is nothing to splay or crush the way a cut pile flattens into traffic lanes. Combined with 11.0mm of total thickness, it is a carpet that stays looking new through years of use, which is what the Extra Heavy Duty Residential and Heavy Duty Commercial rating reflects. The fibre is 100% solution dyed nylon, so the colour is built into the strand rather than applied to it. You can clean it with diluted bleach without leaving a lighter patch, and it will not fade where sun falls across the floor.
