Riverside Reserve - Oatley - 17mm Cut Pile Carpet

Pale, cool and blue-leaning, Oatley is the most neutral grey in Riverside Reserve, and in this deeper build it loses the slightly hard edge it can have in a shorter pile. The 17.0mm yarn gives it a soft, powdery quality that reads more like cashmere than concrete. It is the colour to specify when the room is already doing the decorating: white walls, dark joinery, a strong artwork, a big bed. Where it struggles is in a warm scheme lit only by lamps, where a cool blue-grey can look grey in the dullest sense; Auburn or Waverley are much warmer answers in the same range. Castle Cove is the near neighbour to compare it with: same pale value, but green-cast and flecked rather than plain and blue.

The carpet is a Belgotex tufted cut pile in 100% stainproof solution dyed nylon, fitted to a FusionBac backing. With the pigment locked into the fibre, a pale cool grey stays cool and grey; it will not creep towards beige with cleaning, and spot treatment on the stainproof yarn will not leave a lighter patch behind.
