Benghazi - Flow - 9mm Scroll Loop Pile Carpet

Flow is the darkest and the warmest colour in the Benghazi range: a deep chocolate brown with no grey hedging in it. Laid across a full floor it behaves like a dark timber: it anchors the room, throws the walls and furniture forward, and looks considered rather than heavy provided there is decent light coming in. It is a long step past Shore, the next deepest, and the opposite end of the range from Terra. Flow is excellent at hiding tracked-in dirt, which makes it a strong choice for entries, stairs, media rooms, home offices and high-traffic rentals. The honest warning is the reverse of the usual one: a dark carpet hides soil but shows lint, pet hair and the fluff shed by a light-coloured rug, so it wants regular vacuuming to look its best. In a small room with little natural light, Shell or Shore gives you depth without the enclosure.

Benghazi is a scroll loop pile carpet from Belgotex, built by running loops of varied size over a linear construction so the pile carries a soft organic scroll across it. The yarn is 100% solution dyed nylon, spun matte rather than lustrous. On a dark colour especially, that matte finish is what separates a rich chocolate from a shiny one.

It rolls at a 4.0m width, wide enough that most Australian rooms can be laid in a single piece with no seam running down the middle, worth having on a dark colour, where a seam is more visible than it would be on a pale one. Total thickness is 9.0mm: low, dense and hard wearing rather than deep and soft, and the slimmer of Belgotex's two scroll loop ranges beside the 11.0mm Alexandria. The fire rating is CRF 4.8kW/m² tested to AS/ISO 9239-1, and the carpet is rated Extra Heavy Duty Residential and Heavy Duty Commercial. Because the colour is dyed into the nylon rather than onto it, Flow holds its depth in a sunny room and will not lighten where it has been cleaned.
