Baltimore - Marble - 10mm Patterned Cut Pile Carpet

Marble sits at the cool, faintly sage end of the Baltimore palette: a soft grey with a green undertone, shot through with the range's two-tone speckle so it never reads as a flat block of colour. Next to Chalk it is warmer and considerably less stark; next to Dolomite it is clearly lighter and lower in contrast. It belongs with cool whites, grey-green walls, and oak or limed timber. Where it struggles is a strongly warm scheme: beige walls, spotted gum floors, brass fittings, against which the green cast can look cold. If that describes your room, Sandstone or Dune is the better direction within the same range.

Baltimore is a Belgotex Premium SDN range, and the pattern is the whole point of it. This is a tufted patterned cut pile: the mottled flecking is built into the carpet through the tufting, not printed onto the surface, and it is exceptionally good at swallowing crumbs, lint, pet hair and the traffic lanes that form down a hallway or across a landing. A plain cut pile in this same grey would show every one of those things. Marble simply absorbs them, which is why a patterned carpet is worth serious thought for stairs, hallways, home offices, rentals and family rooms rather than being treated as a decorative choice only.

The yarn is 100% Premium Solution Dyed Nylon. Solution dyeing puts the pigment into the fibre while it is still liquid, so colour is part of the strand rather than a coating on the outside of it. In practice that means stain proof and fade proof: you can clean it hard, and strong sun will not bleach it out. The fibre is also anti-allergenic. Underneath, the reinforced FusionBac backing gives the 4.0m broadloom dimensional stability, which matters on stairs and wide seam-free runs. Total thickness is 10.0mm, and Belgotex rate it Extra Heavy Duty Residential and Heavy Duty Commercial.

Warranty is 20 years residential and 10 years commercial: the longest Belgotex put on a carpet, and worth stating plainly. Belgotex hold ISO 14001 environmental certification and have set Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) targets; their solution dyeing process uses no water, and the carpet is low VOC emitting.
