Ornato - Umbrina - 5.3mm Looselay Vinyl Plank

Cool silver-grey oak, softly limed, with fine dark grain lines and small knots that give it just enough texture to avoid looking printed - Umbrina is the contemporary grey of the Ornato range. It is regularly compared with Morlaix and Rome, and the differences matter: Morlaix is darker, rougher and far more varied, Rome carries an olive-green cast, while Umbrina stays clean, even and genuinely neutral. It is the safest grey to specify alongside white or charcoal cabinetry, stainless appliances and black tapware, and it photographs well in apartments and display suites. Warm brick, terracotta or honey-toned timber trim will fight it, so it is best used in schemes that are already cool.

Grey floors are most often specified in exactly the places where floors get changed: apartment fitouts, offices, salons and retail tenancies. Looselay is built for that reality. The planks hold position by weight and friction rather than being locked or permanently bonded, so the floor can be lifted for a services change, repaired one board at a time, or picked up and reinstalled after a refit. A click hybrid has to be unpicked from a wall; a looselay floor simply comes up.

Each plank measures 178 x 1219mm and is 5.3mm thick, with a fibreglass core layer running through it to give dimensional stability without an interlocking profile. The wear surface is 0.50mm PU, treated with a NanoSilver antibacterial coating, and the plank edge is squared so joins sit flush and clean. It is installed looselay and glueless, with minimal adhesive used across large open areas. Slip resistance is rated R10, the plank provides excellent sound and heat insulation, and it is suitable over underfloor heating. It is moisture resistant, but a looselay floor is not a waterproofing system, so check with us before it goes into a bathroom or laundry.
