Sumptuous - Dreamy - 12mm Cut Pile Carpet

Dreamy is a true black and the darkest colour Sumptuous offers. Where Spell Bound retains a trace of charcoal and Whisper is clearly a dark grey, Dreamy has no grey left in it at all. It is the absolute end of the range. A black plush carpet is a strong decision and it should be made deliberately: it will absorb light rather than bounce it, throw wall colours and furniture into sharp relief, and make a large, well-lit room feel dramatic. In a compact bedroom or one with a single small window it will do the opposite, closing the space down, and Whisper is the far more forgiving dark in that situation.

What makes a black carpet worth doing in this particular range is the yarn. Belgotex build Sumptuous from 100% Premium Soft Solution Dyed Nylon, engineered for softness underfoot rather than for maximum density, and tuft it as a cut pile at 12.0mm total thickness. Deep, plush and soft, it gives a black floor a texture and a light-catching quality that a flat, dense carpet cannot. It belongs in a bedroom, main suite or living room. Belgotex's Extra Heavy Duty Residential and Medium Duty Commercial rating makes clear it is not intended as a stair and corridor carpet.

The honest warnings on true black: a deep soft cut pile shows footprints and vacuum tracks more than a loop pile or a patterned carpet, and on black those tracks are at their most visible. Pale lint, dust and pet hair also show more than they would on a mid tone. None of it is wear and all of it vacuums away, but Dreamy suits a room you can keep tidy rather than a high-traffic thoroughfare. The colour itself is exceptionally stable, because solution dying locks pigment into the fibre while the nylon is liquid instead of coating the outside: stain proof, fade proof, cleanable with strong products, and resistant to sun-greying. FusionBac reinforced backing keeps the 4.0m broadloom true, with a fire rating of CRF 2.6 kW/m2 to AS ISO 9239-1.
