Swish Laminate - Blackbutt Light - 12mm Laminate Flooring

Blackbutt Light sits at the lighter end of the Swish Bespoke range, but the swatch is not the pale blonde the name implies - it is a warm golden honey-tan with a soft amber base and the fine, mostly straight grain blackbutt is known for. The comparison to make is New England Blackbutt, and it runs the opposite way to what the two names suggest: New England is the paler, softer and slightly cooler of the pair, while Blackbutt Light carries more gold and sits a shade deeper. Choose it for warm white or cream walls, timber and rattan furniture, and interiors that want a light floor that still feels warm. If you want the palest blackbutt in the range, look at New England Blackbutt instead.

A warm light-to-mid floor is the easiest of the lighter tones to live with: the gold in the base means fine dust and grit sit close to the board rather than standing out against it, which is not true of the cooler pale decors here. Blackbutt Light works well in apartments and smaller homes where a dark floor would close the space in. It will push yellow under warm LED lighting, though, so it is worth seeing a sample under the lights you actually have rather than under showroom daylight.

Swish Bespoke Laminate Flooring is a 12mm floating laminate on a 1518 x 236mm board - shorter and wider than the long planks that dominate the category, which keeps the pattern repeat tight in rooms broken up by doorways and joinery. The surface is matt with EIR embossing. EIR means embossed in register: the texture pressed into the board is aligned to the printed grain, so the ridge you feel sits where the grain you see falls. EIR appears on other ranges in this catalogue too, but against flat-printed laminate it is the difference you notice first. All four edges are micro-bevelled and boards join with Välinge 2G locking, folding down over underlay with no glue.

Swish Bespoke is rated AC4 for abrasion, certified E1 for VOC emissions, and specified for dry interior areas of private homes and commercial establishments - not for bathrooms, laundries or anywhere regularly wet.
