Swish Oak Wideboard - Elegant Walnut Oak - 14/4mm Engineered Oak Flooring

Elegant Walnut Oak earns its name, which is not something you can say about every decor in this range. It is a deep chocolate brown with genuine warmth in it, the grain lit by red-amber highlights that catch the light and stop the floor reading as a flat dark slab. It is the darkest warm tone Swish Oak Wideboard offers. Urban Antique Oak is the other dark option but goes the opposite way, cool and smoky grey-brown, so the two are easy to tell apart in person. Against Fiano Brown in the Natura range this is deeper and more chocolate, where Fiano leans tobacco. It suits formal, traditional and richly furnished rooms; it does not suit a small, dim space.

Dark floors make a room feel enclosed and intimate, which is wonderful in a generous living room with good glazing and difficult in a narrow apartment hallway with one window. Be realistic about the room before committing. Practically, a deep brown hides dark marks, pet accidents and shoe scuffs well, but it shows dust, lint and light-coloured pet hair much more obviously than a mid-tone floor, so expect to vacuum more often rather than less. It pairs strongly with cream and off-white walls, brass fittings and warm-toned rugs.

The Swish Oak Wideboard construction pairs a 4mm sawn oak face with a stable engineered core for a 14mm board, sized at a broad 220 x 2200mm so fewer joins interrupt the floor. Micro-bevelled edges frame each plank, and the Välinge 5G locking profile allows a fully floating, glueless installation over underlay. The thickness of the oak layer matters more than any other number here. At 4mm there is enough solid timber above the core to allow repeated sanding and refinishing over the decades, so scratches, dents and dulled coatings are a maintenance job rather than a replacement job. As with all engineered timber, the packs need to sit in the room and acclimatise to its humidity before a board is cut, which adds lead time compared with a hybrid floor.

This range meets E1 low-emission requirements with VOC levels measured below 5ppm, so it is a sound choice where indoor air quality is a consideration. As with all real timber floors, individual boards differ in colour and grain, and the floor will change subtly with light exposure over the years, which is worth anticipating around rugs and furniture that shade parts of the surface. None of that is a defect. It is simply what natural oak does, and it is why a physical sample beats any photograph. Supply and install available across Sydney.
