XXL 8.0 - Coastal Blackbutt - 8mm Hybrid Flooring

Coastal Blackbutt is the most openly golden board in XXL 8.0 — a warm amber-blonde with strong flowing grain and scattered dark knots that give it real character across a long plank. Compared with Oak Saffron it is brighter and more yellow-gold; compared with Oak Titanium it has considerably more contrast and knot detail. It is made for bright, relaxed Sydney interiors and sits naturally with white walls, rattan and linen. It is the wrong board for a minimal, monochrome scheme, where the knots will read as noise.

Golden boards with visible knots are quietly practical. The dark figuring does most of the work in disguising scuffs and small scratches, and the warm ground hides the sand and dust that come through a back door all summer. In a long open-plan space the 1511mm plank and the grain running with it draw the eye down the room and make it feel longer. In a small, busy room the knot contrast can start to feel repetitive, and a calmer board suits better.

XXL 8.0 is named for the plank: 1511 x 229mm, long enough to cut down the number of joins across a room and make an open-plan space read as one continuous floor. The board is 8mm thick including 1.5mm of IXPE acoustic underlay already attached to the back, so no separate underlay is needed. A 0.55mm wear layer and an anti-bacterial UV coating protect the surface, the edges are micro-bevelled, and the boards lock together on a Välinge 5G profile and float over the substrate. The core is a waterproof rigid core, but a click-together floor is not a waterproof assembly and is not a substitute for a waterproofing membrane — talk to us before specifying it for a wet area.

It is covered by a 25 year residential and 5 year commercial warranty, rated A+ for VOC emissions, phthalate free and 100% recyclable at the end of its life. Supply and install available across Sydney.
