XXL 8.0 - Oak Sofia - 8mm Hybrid Flooring

Oak Sofia reads as weathered rather than new — a light-to-mid cool greige with real plank-to-plank variation, some boards noticeably paler and some drifting towards driftwood grey. Oak Atlanta is warmer and far more uniform; Cotton Oak is much paler and almost flat. It suits coastal and relaxed contemporary interiors where a slightly aged, lived-in floor is the intention, and it pairs well with white-painted timber, pale stone and linen. If you want a crisp, uniform, contemporary floor, its variation will look unresolved to you.

Variation is the practical argument for this board. A floor already carrying several greys gives marks, scuffs and the occasional scratch nowhere obvious to land, and it is unusually good at disguising the slight colour differences between packs that show up on plainer floors. The cool tone does make it best suited to rooms with decent natural light — in a dim south-facing room it can flatten out. Across a large open-plan area the variation resolves into texture rather than pattern, which is where it looks its best.

The appeal of XXL 8.0 is length. At 1511 x 229mm the plank is longer than most hybrids on the market, which means fewer end joins, a cleaner sightline down a hallway and a calmer floor in a large room. Total thickness is 8mm, including 1.5mm of pre-attached IXPE acoustic underlay that quietens footfall and removes a step from the installation. The surface carries a 0.55mm wear layer and an anti-bacterial UV coating, the edges are micro-bevelled, and the Välinge 5G locking profile gives a tight, durable joint in a floating install. The rigid core is waterproof, though a click-together floor is not a waterproof assembly and does not replace a waterproofing membrane — check with us before using it in a wet area.

Warranty runs to 25 years residential and 5 years commercial. The board carries an A+ VOC rating, is phthalate free and is fully recyclable at end of life, which makes it a straightforward specification for projects with indoor air quality or sustainability requirements.
