Aliena - 15/4mm Quercus Engineered Timber Flooring

Quercus Aliena is a mid grey-brown oak, a smoky taupe with the grain clearly visible and moderate variation from board to board. It is neither a warm brown nor a true grey, which is what lets it sit between grey joinery and timber furniture without picking a side.

Mid greige floors are the practical middle of the range. They hide dust better than pale boards and pale lint better than dark ones, and they take both cool and warm wall colours. In a north-facing room with plenty of light the brown comes forward; under cool LEDs it reads greyer.

Quercus is the thicker of HTT's plank ranges: 15mm in total with a 4mm European oak veneer over a plywood core, twice the wear layer on Bonita. A 4mm veneer is thick enough that a future sand and recoat is realistic, which a 2mm veneer does not allow. Boards measure 1900mm by 190mm, tongue and groove, and go down by direct stick or as a floating floor.

The finish is a 5 to 8 percent matt with a micro bevel on all four sides. Grade is ABCD, so knots and colour movement are expected and up to a quarter of a box may be short boards. A 2.166m2 pack weighs 21.5kg. Wet slip tested P3 to AS 4586:2013, and HTT's residential warranty is 25 years structural and 7 years on the finish.
