Ornato - Morlaix - 5.3mm Looselay Vinyl Plank

Weathered driftwood grey with real character: Morlaix carries open knots, cracked grain and plank-to-plank tonal shifts that run from silver through to a bruised brown-grey. It is the most rustic of the three greys in this range. Umbrina is a calmer, cleaner silver and Rome leans softly green-beige, whereas Morlaix looks like timber that has spent a season outdoors. That makes it excellent for barn-style and coastal interiors, warehouse conversions and commercial spaces that want texture on the floor, and it is unusually good at disguising day-to-day dirt. It is not the floor for a minimal, uniform interior, and the strong variation can overwhelm a small room.

Heavily varied decors like this one are the best possible argument for looselay. Because planks are simply laid rather than clicked or bonded, an installer can lay boards out, look at them, and rearrange the run before committing - and can still swap a plank two years later if one gets damaged, with no colour-matched glue line to give the repair away. Add the fact that the whole floor can be lifted and relaid elsewhere and it is easy to see why looselay dominates in retail and office fitouts where tenancies change.

The technical platform is a 5.3mm looselay luxury vinyl plank in a 178 x 1219mm format. Dimensional stability comes from a fibreglass core layer built into the plank, not from an interlocking edge, so the board stays flat and stable across temperature swings. The surface is finished with a 0.50mm PU wear layer and a NanoSilver antibacterial coating, and edges are squared for a tight, flush join. It is laid looselay and glueless, with minimal adhesive introduced over large open areas. The floor is rated R10 for slip, delivers excellent sound and heat insulation, and is suitable for installation over underfloor heating. It is moisture resistant, though a looselay floor is not a waterproofing system - please talk to us before specifying it for a bathroom or laundry.
