Ornato - Pau - 5.3mm Looselay Vinyl Plank

The lightest floor in the Ornato collection, Pau is a limed, whitewashed oak whose grain has been bleached back until it is barely more than a shadow, with a faint cool lilac-grey undertone in the pale areas. Verona is the obvious comparison and the one people confuse it with, but Verona holds sandy warmth while Pau stays resolutely cool and chalky - and against Umbrina, Pau is clearly the paler and less silver of the two. It is the right floor for Scandinavian and Japandi interiors, for basement conversions and small units that need bouncing light, and for anyone building a scheme around black hardware. Households with dark-coated dogs or a habit of walking in red soil should look elsewhere.

Looselay makes a very pale floor a far less nervous decision. A plank that gets stained or scuffed is not a permanent feature of the room: it lifts straight out, weight and friction being all that held it there, and a fresh board goes in without adhesive, saw cuts or disruption to neighbouring rows. That single-plank serviceability is exactly why looselay is the default in retail showrooms and leased office space, where floors take punishment and repairs need to be quick and invisible.

Each board is 178 x 1219mm and 5.3mm thick. A fibreglass core layer inside the plank does the work of keeping it flat and dimensionally stable, which is what allows the floor to be laid without a click profile at all. The decor is protected by a 0.50mm PU wear layer, the surface carries a NanoSilver antibacterial coating, and the edges are squared so boards meet flush with no bevel to trap dirt. Installation is looselay and glueless, with minimal adhesive over large open areas. The product is rated R10, provides excellent sound and heat insulation, and is suitable over underfloor heating. It is moisture resistant, but a looselay floor is not a waterproofing system - talk to us before specifying it for a bathroom or laundry.
