Ornato - Rome - 5.3mm Looselay Vinyl Plank

Rome is a pale greige with a distinctly green cast - closer to sun-bleached olive wood or dry eucalypt than to a true grey oak - laid over a softly weathered grain with fine dark cracks. That green undertone is what separates it from the other neutrals: Umbrina is silver and clean, Morlaix is darker and much more rustic, while Rome quietly bridges the warm and cool halves of the range. It is a genuinely useful floor when a scheme has both oak joinery and grey stone and neither should win. Where it does not work is next to strong blue-greys or cool white marble, which will make the olive cast look muddy rather than considered.

Neutral, forgiving decors are frequently chosen for spaces that turn over - and turning over is what looselay handles best. There is no locking profile and no full-spread adhesive; planks stay put by weight, friction and a tight squared edge, which means the floor can be partially lifted for services, repaired one board at a time, or taken up entirely and relaid in a new tenancy. For offices, shops and rental properties, that is a materially different proposition from a click hybrid that has to be dismantled row by row.

Underneath, this is a 5.3mm looselay luxury vinyl plank at 178 x 1219mm, with a fibreglass core layer that provides the dimensional stability an interlocking joint would otherwise supply. The wear surface is 0.50mm PU, carrying a NanoSilver antibacterial coating, and the plank edges are squared rather than bevelled. It lays looselay and glueless, with only minimal adhesive needed over large open areas. Slip resistance is rated R10, the plank insulates well against both sound and heat, and it can be installed over underfloor heating. It is moisture resistant, but a looselay floor is not a waterproofing system, so please check with us before it goes into a bathroom or laundry.
