Swish Aqua - Oak Colonial - 12.3mm Laminate Flooring

Oak Colonial is a weathered smoky grey, which is a long way from the warm traditional brown the name implies - a mid-to-dark greyed oak with strong rustic figure, saw-mark texture and real contrast from plank to plank. Madrid Oak is its closest relative in the Swish Aqua range: Madrid is smoother and far more even, Colonial is rougher, busier and more driftwood-like. It suits industrial and coastal-modern interiors, white walls, black hardware and stone. If you actually want a mellow traditional brown for a period home, Oak Georgia and Montreal Oak are the boards to look at instead.

Heavily figured grey floors are among the most forgiving surfaces you can install, because scuffs, grit and minor damage disappear into the contrast rather than sitting on top of it. The thing to check before committing is how Oak Colonial meets any existing timber in the house: a grey this decided will not blend into an older warm-brown floor, so a deliberate break at the doorway usually reads better than a transition strip pretending the two match.

Every board in the Swish Aqua range is built the same way: 12.3mm thick, 2200 x 196mm, micro-bevelled, and joined with the Välinge 5G locking profile so the floor goes down floating and glueless over underlay. What you are really buying is the Aqua core - a core engineered to resist moisture, which is why the range is not restricted to dry areas the way conventional laminate is.
